86: You've Got Another Thing Coming

Several police officers immediately strode forward, the one in front holding a pair of handcuffs, ready to shackle Shen Yifei (the protagonist).

"You're arresting people without even asking what happened? Is that how you conduct yourselves as officers?" Liu Xiaoxiao snapped indignantly.

"Shen Yifei, what do we do?" Su Muqing's (a beautiful young woman) delicate face paled slightly.

Shen Yifei whispered, "Don't worry, I'll handle this."

"Handle it?" Liu Xiang (a high-ranking police official) scoffed, his face twisted in mockery. "Who do you think you are? Let me tell you, once you've fallen into my hands today, you won't be wiggling your way out!"

Shen Yifei snorted, "You can cuff me, but let me make a call first."

"You little punk, still trying to play dumb with me?" Liu Xiang roared, his face livid.

"Director Liu (a police chief), why don't you let him make a call? I'm curious to see what tricks he can pull," Zhang Wenzhi (another antagonist) said with a mocking grin.

Shen Yifei couldn't be bothered with these guys. He immediately pulled out his phone and called Bai Qingyu (a formidable female police captain).

"Hello? What's wrong?" Bai Qingyu's clear voice rang out from the other end of the line.

Shen Yifei raised an eyebrow. "How did you know something happened?"

"Hmph, would you call me if nothing was wrong?" Bai Qingyu snapped back irritably.

Shen Yifei cleared his throat. "Well, actually, something did happen. Some police officers are trying to arrest me. Can you help me sort this out?"

"You... who do you take me for?!" Bai Qingyu fumed. But then, considering Shen Yifei's (the protagonist's) unique identity, she stifled her anger and huffed, "Tell me, what did you do? Just so you know, I won't actively cover for you!"

*This woman is so petty,* Shen Yifei thought, scratching his head. He quickly explained the situation.

"You're at the pedestrian street too? I'm actually on my way there to handle something. Wait five minutes, I'll be there right away!" Bai Qingyu said before hanging up.

Shen Yifei called out to Liu Xiang, "Just wait five minutes. Your superior will be here soon."

"My superior? Hahahaha!" Liu Xiang laughed scornfully, his face a picture of disdain. He even put on a show of mock fear, chuckling dryly, "Oh, you're really selling it! You're going to call my superior? I'm so scared!"

Zhang Wenzhi and the blonde woman with him also sneered. They didn't believe Shen Yifei could possibly summon anyone of importance.

Besides, Zhou Bin (the Deputy Commissioner of Huahai City's Police Bureau) was an acquaintance of his. Zhang Wenzhi thought, even if Shen Yifei could really pull out some official, he could easily handle this punk.

"Director Liu, just give him ten minutes. Let's see who he can conjure up," Zhang Wenzhi taunted.

"Alright then. You've got another thing coming," Shen Yifei shrugged.

The standoff caused the customers in the jewelry store to slowly disperse. The manager, with a tear-streaked face, approached Liu Xiang. "Officer, could you possibly take this somewhere else? This is... this is really affecting our business!"

"Can't you see we're conducting official business?" Liu Xiang huffed with immense arrogance.

Su Muqing felt a pang of anxiety. She stepped forward and said, "Officer, could you please wait a bit longer?"

Liu Xiang sneered, "Wait for what? Get him arrested now!"

Several police officers immediately swarmed forward. The one in front produced the handcuffs and shackled Shen Yifei.

"Come quietly with us," the officer said chillingly, just as he was about to pull Shen Yifei up.

"That won't do." Annoyed, Shen Yifei gave the officer a shove.

The officer was sent flying several meters by Shen Yifei, landing hard on the ground.

Liu Xiang roared, "You dare resist arrest? Do you want to rot in prison?!"

"I don't believe you!" A furious, feminine shout echoed from the doorway.

"Who's making all that noise?!" Liu Xiang was about to turn around and curse, but when he saw who had arrived, he nearly jumped out of his skin. "Ca-Captain Bai (a high-ranking police officer)!"

Striding in was a female officer in uniform, with an incredibly striking figure. It was indeed Bai Qingyu.

"You're finally here!" Shen Yifei breathed a sigh of relief.

Bai Qingyu also let out a sigh of relief. She had been worried Shen Yifei (the protagonist) might resort to violent actions. Fortunately, he had behaved himself this time.

"Captain Bai, you... what brings you here?" Liu Xiang scurried forward, his face plastered with a fawning smile.

Zhang Wenzhi's face stiffened. "Beautiful officer, I..."

Bai Qingyu couldn't be bothered with Zhang Wenzhi. She turned to Liu Xiang and huffed, "Liu Xiang, you've really outdone yourself! You can just casually mobilize police officers to make arrests now?"

Liu Xiang trembled all over, knowing full well the new Captain of the Criminal Investigation Division's modus operandi. He hastily explained, "Ca-Captain Bai, you've... you've misunderstood. I wasn't..."

Bai Qingyu spoke in a chilling tone, "Alright, you won't be serving as Director of the Police Department anymore. Report to the Criminal Investigation Division tomorrow."

Liu Xiang's body convulsed. He collapsed onto the ground, looking utterly devastated, as if his world had ended.

*It's over. My career is gone.* If he went to the Criminal Investigation Division, he'd surely have to start as a lowly detective.

"Officers, leave immediately. Don't disturb other shoppers," Bai Qingyu ordered the police.

Zhang Wenzhi's expression was grim. He stepped forward and said, "Excuse me, beautiful officer, shouldn't you wait until you know the full story before making a decision?"

It would have been fine if he hadn't said that. Zhang Wenzhi actually tried to use Zhou Bin to pressure her, and Bai Qingyu immediately flew into a rage. "Don't you dare mention Zhou Bin to me! Do you want me to send *you* to the police station for questioning first?!" she snapped.
