64: The Legendary Drift
"It's been a long time since I've truly pushed a car to its limits. A little high-speed thrill would be nice," Shen Yifei mused, a glint of excitement dancing in his eyes.
Liu Xiaoxiao held her breath, speechless. As the speedometer needle soared past 120 (kilometers per hour), her heart hammered against her ribs, threatening to leap into her throat.
"It was just a meal, wasn't it? Was escaping it worth risking their lives? If they hit anything, they'd be dead!" Liu Xiaoxiao's face drained of all color, ghostly pale with terror.
"Damn it, this guy's got some uncanny skill!" Cao Bao snarled, refusing to be outdone. He gritted his teeth and stomped on the accelerator, rocketing his car forward.
The string of ordinary sedans behind them quickly fell away. Only the Audi R8 and the BMW X6 remained, two sleek beasts accelerating, tearing through the city streets.
Shen Yifei's speed had already hit 150 kilometers per hour, and it was still climbing. This was 8 PM, the heart of rush hour, and the streets were teeming with cars and pedestrians.
To maintain such a terrifying speed – over 150 kilometers per hour – amidst heavy traffic required a level of audacity bordering on madness. One wrong move, one tiny miscalculation, and it would be a fiery wreck, a death trap!
Pedestrians gaped, their eyes wide with disbelief, as two sports cars roared past them, a thunderous symphony of engines. "Bloody hell, street racing right here?" muttered one, "They must have a death wish!"
From the driver's seat of a white Porsche 911, Li Fei watched the spectacle unfold, his eyes wide. He recognized the black Audi R8 instantly – it belonged to Cao Bao.
"Tsk, tsk, Brother Fei," a man in a black suit remarked from the passenger seat. "Your Huahai City (a bustling metropolis) street racers certainly have a fiery spirit, taking their races straight to the avenues." This was Ling Kai, a professional race car driver, renowned among the elite for his skill, and a close friend of Li Fei.
"Shall we give chase?" Li Fei asked, a glint in his eye.
"How could we miss such a thrill? Those two seem to have some serious skill," Ling Kai chuckled, his interest piqued.
Li Fei stomped the accelerator, sending his Porsche roaring after the two cars ahead.
Gripping the BMW X6's steering wheel, Shen Yifei was about to unleash its true potential, redefining what a sports car could be.
Though the X6 was a powerful vehicle, Liu Xiaoxiao's personal car was no dedicated racer, and its performance lagged significantly behind Cao Bao's custom-tuned Audi R8. Yet, for Shen Yifei, such minor discrepancies were easily overcome by his unparalleled driving mastery.
The speedometer needle continued its relentless ascent: 160, 170, then 190 kilometers per hour! Liu Xiaoxiao's delicate frame trembled uncontrollably, her pretty face a ghastly white. She could already feel the car body swaying, on the verge of losing control!
A collision at this speed meant certain death. Yet, what truly defied belief was Shen Yifei himself, humming a light tune, his expression utterly nonchalant, as if he were cruising along on an electric bicycle rather than hurtling through a crowded city.
Liu Xiaoxiao wanted to scream for Shen Yifei to stop, but terror had seized her voice, leaving her speechless.
In the Audi R8, beads of sweat the size of peas already slicked Cao Bao's forehead. "Damn it," he cursed under his breath, "driving this fast on city streets, one wrong move, and it's a guaranteed fiery inferno!"
"Bloody hell, this is insane! Does this kid have a death wish?" A flicker of apprehension touched Cao Bao's heart. This speed was already at the absolute edge of his capabilities.
What truly stunned him was that the other driver was *still accelerating*!
"Madman!" he roared, though only to himself.
Indeed, Shen Yifei was still pushing the accelerator, the speedometer now nudging past 200 kilometers per hour, slowly but surely pulling away from the Audi R8.
A sharp curve loomed ahead.
The Porsche 911, still close behind the Audi R8, saw Li Fei and Ling Kai's expressions shift from excitement to profound shock.
"Who *is* this driver? The sheer audacity!" Ling Kai's face twitched.
A sweeping bend dominated the road ahead. Both the Audi R8 and the Porsche began to decelerate, preparing for the turn. But Shen Yifei's speed remained a blistering 200 kilometers per hour.
Cao Bao's eyes nearly popped out of his skull. *He's taking a bend at that speed? Is he trying to kill himself?*
Liu Xiaoxiao's face was chalk-white. "Shen Yifei, you maniac! I don't want to die!" she silently screamed, though no sound escaped her lips. In her eyes, the man in the driver's seat had transformed into an utter demon.
The next instant, an impossible scene unfolded before their disbelieving eyes.
Shen Yifei stomped the brake, then snapped the steering wheel into a lightning-fast turn.
The BMW's engine roared a defiant challenge, its body violently shuddered, and the entire front end of the vehicle swung sideways with a breathtaking, unnatural grace!
A searing *SSSSCRRRREEEECCCHHH* ripped through the air as the tires shrieked against the asphalt, sending up billows of acrid white smoke.
For the first time, Liu Xiaoxiao truly experienced what it meant to witness a legendary drift (a controlled slide through a turn, where the car maintains high speed by oversteering). But this wasn't the clean, cinematic maneuver she'd seen in films; this was a sustained, violent slide. The world outside became a blurred, illusory streak, and she felt as if her very body was about to be flung from the careening vehicle.
In what felt like a single, held breath, the BMW had already cleared the bend, its nose perfectly realigned, rocketing forward with renewed ferocity!
Li Fei and Ling Kai simultaneously gasped, a collective intake of cold air.
Cao Bao was utterly dumbfounded, momentarily wondering if he had just witnessed an illusion.
Such a wide, sweeping curve, yet he had *drifted* through it at that impossible speed? The BMW vanished in a blink, a black lightning bolt streaking into the distance.
And the sheer audacity of that drifting technique… it sent shivers down their spines.
With that single, audacious maneuver, the BMW had instantly put a significant distance between itself and the trailing Audi R8.
"A… a driving god!" Ling Kai finally managed to croak, swallowing hard. The spectacle he'd just witnessed would be etched into his memory forever.
Li Fei, equally stunned, unconsciously swallowed a lump in his throat.
After two more bends, the BMW X6 had definitively shaken off the Audi R8.
Cao Bao, his face a mask of utter disbelief, had already brought his car to a halt.
Li Fei, however, kept the Porsche moving, speeding away.
"Brother Fei, why didn't we stop him? We could've learned who that was!" Ling Kai asked, unable to contain his curiosity.
"Forget it," Li Fei replied, shaking his head. "That driver belongs to Sun Huo (a powerful figure in the underworld)."
Cao Bao was a subordinate of Sun Huo, the second-in-command of the Huatong Syndicate (a formidable criminal organization). The syndicate was currently embroiled in an internal power struggle, and Li Fei had no affinity for Sun Huo, so he saw no reason to acknowledge his underling.
"Huahai City (a bustling metropolis where hidden masters reside) truly lives up to its name! I never imagined such an expert could be found here! That skill… it's akin to a driving god!" Ling Kai exclaimed, a surge of excitement on his face.
Li Fei drew a deep breath. "I know all the top racers in Huahai City," he conceded, "but I've never witnessed driving skills of this caliber. That person is a true master!"
If only he knew that the owner of that BMW was none other than Shen Yifei, the very man who had outmaneuvered him with a daring shortcut in a previous race, Li Fei's reaction would undoubtedly have been priceless.
Cao Bao stared blankly at the now-vanished BMW, his mind reeling. *Unbelievable! A guy with such phenomenal skill, and he just skipped out on his bill?*
"Damn it, I've been played for a fool!" Cao Bao seethed, the bitter taste of defeat mixing with deep resentment. He refused to accept losing to Shen Yifei. Yet, the stark reality was undeniable: when it came to street racing, he was absolutely no match for the driver of that BMW.
The BMW, moving at an incredible pace, twisted and turned through the labyrinthine streets. Only when Shen Yifei was absolutely certain he had lost any pursuers did he pull over to the side of an empty stretch of road.
The moment the car screeched to a halt, Liu Xiaoxiao flung open the door and stumbled out, immediately collapsing by the roadside greenery, retching uncontrollably, all pretense of ladylike composure utterly abandoned.
"Xiaoxiao, are you alright?" Shen Yifei asked, stepping leisurely from the car.
After she finally emptied her stomach, Liu Xiaoxiao frantically pulled out a tissue, wiping her mouth over and over again. Her eyes blazing with fury, she glared at Shen Yifei. "You absolute bastard!" she shrieked, her voice hoarse. "Were you trying to murder me?!"
Shen Yifei merely chuckled. "See? Nothing happened, did it? And I've already shaken them off."
"Shake my *what*?! If you ever pull a stunt like that again, you are *never* riding in my car!" Liu Xiaoxiao spat, utterly beside herself with rage. The terrifying memory of Shen Yifei's reckless street racing had nearly knocked her unconscious, leaving an indelible psychological scar.
