“What?” Lin Cai’er froze, half-doubting if she had misheard.
“Shen Yifei is my fiancé. We have a formal engagement contract, written in black and white…” Su Muqing began to explain, naturally keeping some details to herself.
Her ultimate goal was simply to let Lin Cai’er know that Shen Yifei was her fiancé, and that was enough.
Lin Cai’er finally understood why Shen Yifei had rejected her initially. It turned out he already had someone.
Seeing the desolate look on Lin Cai’er’s face, Su Muqing felt like a scheming villainess from a K-drama, and her mood became incredibly low.
Shen Yifei was her fiancé, even if only in name…
In any case, no matter how good another woman was, she wouldn’t let anyone steal her fiancé! Su Muqing absolutely would not allow that to happen.
“I’m sorry, Assistant Lin, I didn’t mean to upset you. Are you… alright?”
“I’m fine, thank you for telling me, CEO Su,” Lin Cai’er said, stifling a sob.
Walking out of the CEO’s office, Lin Cai’er’s expression was dejected, as if her mind and body had suffered a severe blow.
Indeed, how could she compare to Su Muqing? In every aspect, Su Muqing was miles ahead of her.
Compared to Su Muqing, that ethereal, unapproachable beauty, Lin Cai’er felt like an ugly duckling, whether in terms of temperament, figure, or family background.
Lin Cai’er thought to herself, a man as wonderful as Shen Yifei could probably only be matched by an elegant, intelligent, and peerlessly stunning woman like CEO Su.
As she thought, a flicker of disappointment crossed Lin Cai’er’s beautiful eyes, followed by deep self-doubt.
In the Public Relations Department manager’s office, Shen Yifei saw Lin Cai’er return and immediately stepped forward, asking, “Cai’er, did Su Muqing give you a hard time?”
“No. CEO Su is very kind.” Lin Cai’er shook her head. To call Su Muqing by her given name, Shen Yifei was indeed her fiancé.
Noticing Lin Cai’er’s unusual expression, Shen Yifei frowned and asked, “What’s wrong, Cai’er? Did something happen?”
Lin Cai’er suppressed her emotions and whispered, “CEO Su told me everything, including the fact that you’re her fiancé.”
“My apologies, some things I didn’t tell you directly,” Shen Yifei scratched his head.
“It’s alright,” Lin Cai’er shook her head.
“By the way, Cai’er, I’m being transferred from the Public Relations Department. I’m now Su Muqing’s personal secretary.”
“Oh.” Lin Cai’er had already suspected Shen Yifei would be transferred.
CEO Su must have been worried about any ambiguous relationship developing between herself and Shen Yifei. As a woman, Lin Cai’er naturally understood Su Muqing’s actions.
“Of course, I’ll still visit you often in the future. We’re still good friends,” Shen Yifei smiled.
“Yes, friends…” Lin Cai’er felt very disheartened, her nose stinging slightly.
She didn’t dare to hope for anything more; she couldn’t even if she wanted to. The fact that Shen Yifei still considered her a friend was enough.
Leaving the office, Shen Yifei felt inexplicably annoyed. This was truly not his style.
The old him would have definitely pursued Lin Cai’er. But now, he had to pretend to be a gentleman.
Well, pretending was fine. He didn’t want to hurt the pure girl’s feelings with his usual frivolousness.
Still, Shen Yifei had a feeling that something more might still happen between him and Lin Cai’er.
Now, he was Su Muqing’s personal secretary, and Shen Yifei wasn’t sure if this job was good or bad.
Back in the CEO’s office, Su Muqing was still engrossed in her documents.
Shen Yifei couldn’t understand it. Was work truly so important to this woman?
“You didn’t eat lunch, so I specifically brought this for you. Hurry and eat!” Shen Yifei placed the packaged box on her desk. Inside was a freshly made pizza from the restaurant.
Su Muqing was slightly taken aback. She hadn’t expected this man to have such a thoughtful side, which made her a little uncomfortable.
“Shen Yifei, you don’t need to specially try to please me. I’m not falling for that,” Su Muqing scoffed softly.
“Oh, really? If you’re not eating it, then I’ll eat it for you. You can go hungry,” Shen Yifei retorted.
With that, Shen Yifei picked up a slice of pizza and took a bite.
“You!” Su Muqing’s pretty face twisted in annoyance. This man was simply too insensitive.
“Who said I wasn’t eating it?” Su Muqing snorted, grabbing a slice of pizza herself and taking a bite.
With so much happening at noon, it was already time for the afternoon work shift.
Liu Xiaoxiao walked into the CEO’s office.
Seeing Shen Yifei there, Liu Xiaoxiao looked somewhat suspicious.
“Xiaoxiao, Shen Yifei will be my secretary from now on,” Su Muqing told Liu Xiaoxiao.
Liu Xiaoxiao jumped in surprise, exclaiming, “Are you kidding me, Xiaoxue? Have you lost your mind? Letting a person like him be your secretary?”
Shen Yifei grumbled unhappily, “Director Liu, don’t be so rude. What do you mean, ‘a person like him’?”
Liu Xiaoxiao cast a glance at Shen Yifei with her beautiful eyes and demanded, “Shen Yifei, how did you bewitch the CEO? Spill the beans!”
She didn’t believe that Su Muqing would suddenly, on a whim, hire a male secretary like Shen Yifei.
“Shen Yifei, please step out for a moment. I need to talk to Director Liu,” Su Muqing told Shen Yifei.
“Alright.” Shen Yifei exited the office.
Liu Xiaoxiao clenched her jaw and said, “Xiaoxue, I really don’t know what you’re thinking. Why suddenly make a man your secretary? Besides, Shen Yifei hasn’t been with the company for long. Can you truly trust him?”
“Xiaoxiao, you don’t need to worry so much. I have my reasons for making Shen Yifei my secretary,” Su Muqing replied.
“Alright.” Although Liu Xiaoxiao remained somewhat suspicious, she didn’t press further.
Liu Xiaoxiao had to admit that despite Shen Yifei’s usual laid-back demeanor, he did possess some capability.
Throughout the entire afternoon, Shen Yifei stayed in the CEO’s office.
He had expected Su Muqing to assign him tasks, but the woman didn’t make him do anything, resulting in Shen Yifei spending the entire afternoon playing on his phone.
This secretarial job was even more boring than being a Public Relations Department manager.
Heading home after work, Shen Yifei rode in Su Muqing’s car. They didn’t exchange many words, perhaps having grown accustomed to the quiet indifference.
Eight in the evening.
“Shen Yifei, we’re out of coffee beans at home. Go buy some for me,” Su Muqing said, walking downstairs in her pajamas after taking a shower.
The loose-fitting pajamas couldn’t conceal the alluring swell of Su Muqing’s chest. Paired with her slightly damp hair and fair, smooth skin, she exuded a unique charm.
Yet, for such an aloof beauty to be wearing childish pajamas patterned with little stars was somewhat amusing.
“Okay,” Shen Yifei replied with a smile.
“Oh, and go to a store called Liangcheng Provisions in the South City District to buy them,” Su Muqing added.
Shen Yifei asked, slightly annoyed, “Is it that particular? It’s just coffee beans. Do I really have to go that far late at night?”
“Don’t want to? Don’t forget, you’re my secretary now, and you’re getting a high salary. I have the right to tell you what to do,” Su Muqing said calmly, her lips pouting slightly.
“Alright, CEO Su, but this is a one-time thing. I’m not a slave,” Shen Yifei shrugged, then rose and left the house.
With Shen Yifei dispatched, Su Muqing sat on the sofa and idly turned on the television.
Although she hadn’t fully adjusted to living together, it seemed she wasn’t entirely resistant to it either.
Her phone suddenly rang. Su Muqing pulled it from her bag and answered.
A man’s voice came from the other end of the line, and Su Muqing’s expression suddenly turned ugly.
