51: I'm Not Angry

“That’s right, General Manager Su, this is Manager Shen, the one who passed the assessment last time. He is my boyfriend.” Lin Caier lowered her head, gritting her teeth as she spoke.

“Silly girl, you’re only making things worse for me!” Shen Yifei couldn't help but inwardly groan.

General Manager Su was his fiancée, after all. With Lin Caier’s explanation, Su Muqing would surely misunderstand things to an even greater extent.

As expected, Su Muqing’s beautiful eyes glared at Shen Yifei, her gaze so icy it made one shiver. The air around them seemed to freeze solid.

Shen Yifei was utterly mortified.

How was he going to explain this? Looking at Su Muqing, he figured they’d have an earth-shattering argument back home.

Then a thought struck him: that wasn't right. Su Muqing already disliked him; there was no reason for her to be angry over this, was there?

A sudden idea sparked in Shen Yifei's mind.

Of course, it wasn't a solution to his problem, but rather a desire to test Su Muqing's true feelings for him, given her usual icy demeanor. Would she actually get angry if he had another woman?

“She’s your girlfriend?” Su Muqing didn't acknowledge Lin Caier’s words, instead, she questioned Shen Yifei with a chilling tone.

“What if she is? What if she isn’t?” Shen Yifei replied indifferently.

As his words hung in the air, Shen Yifei clearly saw Su Muqing's body subtly tremble.

Though she quickly regained her icy composure, he knew she must be hurting inside.

A faint smirk touched Shen Yifei’s lips. He finally had the chance to get one over on the woman who had always looked down on him.

Yet, his actions felt rather shameless. Even if Su Muqing felt nothing for him, his words were undoubtedly hurtful.

Just as Shen Yifei had suspected, Su Muqing's thoughts mirrored his own.

Su Muqing’s emotions were a tangled mess, a cocktail of bitterness and absurdity. She found the situation utterly ridiculous.

Her fiancé-in-name-only had actually admitted, in front of so many people, that another woman was his girlfriend! This was an undeniable stomp on Su Muqing's pride.

Shen Yifei, oh, Shen Yifei. So this is your true face. Men truly are creatures who think with their lower bodies, and you’re no exception. Everything before was just an act.

“Who do you think you are, daring to speak to General Manager Su in that tone!” Gao Jun shot Shen Yifei a scornful look, thinking what an idiot this guy was. To offend even Su Muqing just to show off in front of Lin Caier!

Gao Jun secretly rejoiced, certain that Shen Yifei was finished.

But what he never expected was for Su Muqing to turn her focus, directly confronting Gao Jun: “Manager Gao, Assistant Lin already has a boyfriend, so why are you still harassing her?”

Gao Jun’s jaw dropped. This wasn’t the script! Shouldn’t Su Muqing be furious and fire Shen Yifei on the spot?

“General Manager Su, this... I didn’t know.”

“General Manager Su, he’s talking nonsense. Manager Gao has been harassing Assistant Lin. As for Manager Shen, he only stood up to Manager Gao because he couldn’t stand by. Actually, Manager Shen and Assistant Lin have always been a couple.”

A young woman from the Public Relations Department stepped forward and explained.

“Yes, yes, General Manager Su, that’s exactly how it happened. All of us girls saw it!”

Several young women from the Public Relations Department chimed in.

Shen Yifei had always been kind to them, and the female employees in the Public Relations Department genuinely enjoyed working with him. The women, showing their loyalty, began to speak up in Shen Yifei’s favor.

Shen Yifei’s brow furrowed. Was this just making things worse? You little rascals really are a handful!

Su Muqing’s expression remained calm. She nodded slightly and said, “I’ve mostly understood the situation. Manager Gao, please go back and write up your resignation letter for me.”

Gao Jun collapsed onto the floor in shock.

“What the hell?! Re-re-resignation letter?”

“Manager Gao, you knew Assistant Lin had a boyfriend, yet you persisted in harassing her. This behavior is simply unacceptable. While you possess some ability, your character does not match your competence. Our company does not welcome such employees,” Su Muqing stated coldly.

“General Manager Su, I...” Gao Jun was on the verge of tears, his guts twisted with bitter regret.

Su Muqing ignored Gao Jun, turning to Shen Yifei and Lin Caier. “Both of you, come to my office in ten minutes!”

Trouble was unavoidable now. This was a complete disaster. Shen Yifei felt his problems had just escalated significantly.

Su Muqing had lost all appetite and left the restaurant immediately.

“Shen! You just wait!” Gao Jun glared at Shen Yifei with a face contorted in venomous hatred, then strode away quickly.

Shen Yifei remained expressionless. He saw no need to concern himself with such trash.

Many male employees in the restaurant, seeing Gao Jun fired, loudly praised General Manager Su’s wisdom, as they had long detested Gao Jun’s pretentious demeanor.

Shen Yifei was somewhat speechless. “Wisdom, my ass,” he thought. “I’m her fiancé; she can’t fire me, can she?”

Shen Yifei suddenly regretted saying those words. Su Muqing definitely wouldn’t let him off easily now.

Fortunately, the woman was still rational. If he explained patiently, Su Muqing should understand.

“Brother Lang, General Manager Su must be angry. When we go over there, let’s have a good attitude and explain seriously. She shouldn’t make things difficult for you.” Lin Caier quickly said to Shen Yifei.

“Caier, um... I’m just going to the restroom. Wait for me.” Shen Yifei found an excuse.

“Okay.” Lin Caier nodded.

Shen Yifei didn’t go to the restroom. Instead, he exited the restaurant directly from the west side and took the elevator.

He certainly didn’t want to meet Su Muqing with Lin Caier. How awkward would that be?

Shen Yifei planned to explain things to Su Muqing by himself.

Arriving outside the CEO’s office, Shen Yifei knocked on the door.

“Come in.”

A cool, clear voice invited him in from within.

Shen Yifei pushed the door open and walked straight in.

He had expected Su Muqing to fly into a rage upon seeing him, but the woman’s demeanor was far calmer than Shen Yifei had anticipated.

Su Muqing was holding documents from her desk, flipping through them, seemingly unperturbed.

“Ahem... well...” Shen Yifei was about to speak when the woman suddenly interrupted him.

“Manager Shen, don’t you think you owe me an explanation?”

Su Muqing, still looking down at her documents, suddenly spoke. Her tone was calm, but laced with sarcasm.

“Um...” Shen Yifei’s face flushed slightly with embarrassment. He thought for a long time, unsure how to begin.

Su Muqing suddenly chuckled softly. “Shen Yifei, you’re quite capable, aren’t you? You quietly joined my company and even found yourself such a beautiful and well-behaved girlfriend outside.”

“My dear wife, are you... jealous?” Shen Yifei, deciding to switch tactics, brazenly asked.

Su Muqing’s delicate face twitched imperceptibly, and she huffed softly. “Firstly, I am not your wife. Secondly, I am not jealous. Thirdly, this is a matter of principle. While we may not be true fiances, a marriage contract, clearly written and signed in black and white, exists. You going behind my back to find other women constitutes a breach of contract!”

Her reasons seemed a bit far-fetched, but Shen Yifei felt he was in the wrong, so whatever Su Muqing said wouldn’t be excessive.

“Alright, there’s no need for you to be so angry. There’s nothing going on between Lin Caier and me. Our being ‘boyfriend and girlfriend’ was completely an act.” Shen Yifei shrugged.

“I am not angry,” Su Muqing stated calmly.

“Don’t pretend, you are,” Shen Yifei chuckled.
