40: Call Me Grandfather

“You damn well want to die, kid?!”

“Taking a shortcut doesn’t count as winning!”

“How dare you mess with Brother Fei? I’ll cut you down, you hear me?!”

A chorus of henchmen roared.

Noting Shen Yifei’s utterly calm and collected demeanor, Li Fei’s brow arched. His instincts about people were always sharp, and he sensed there was something uncommon about this young man.

Compared to his subordinates, who only knew how to yell and brawl, Li Fei actually admired a young man with courage and intelligence like Shen Yifei. His initial anger receded, and the thought of recruiting him began to take root.

While the beauty beside Shen Yifei was pure and stunning, women were merely playthings. Subordinates were different; in crucial moments, they might just save your life.

“Let’s just let this matter go for today. We can settle it among friends,” Li Fei declared magnanimously, smiling as he pulled a cigar from his pocket case and tossed it to Shen Yifei.

“I quit that stuff ages ago.” Shen Yifei casually flicked the cigar away. He had no desire to deal with this man.

“You!” The smile on Li Fei’s face froze instantly. This kid was simply ungrateful and didn’t know what was good for him!

“Oh, right. I remember saying just now that if I won, I’d smash your car!” Shen Yifei said with a faint smile.

The henchmen collectively sucked in a cold breath.

This kid was unbelievably audacious!

“Damn it! How dare he mess with Brother Fei? I’ll cripple him!” A henchman lunged at Shen Yifei.

“Get back here!” Li Fei frowned. These lackeys were growing increasingly disobedient.

Lackeys were just lackeys; besides cheering from the sidelines and buttering him up, they were utterly useless.

Shen Yifei’s arrogance, however, only intensified Li Fei’s desire to recruit him.

At Li Fei’s command, the henchman retreated awkwardly.

“How about this: I’ll give you the car. Join me, and I’ll guarantee you endless wealth and women,” Li Fei offered. He assumed Shen Yifei wanted his car.

“So, this car is mine now?” Shen Yifei asked, a sly smile playing on his lips.

“It’s yours,” Li Fei replied, smiling back, thinking, *This kid is indeed greedy for money.*

Having spent a long time in the criminal underworld, Li Fei had come to deeply understand that the more ambitious a person was, the easier they were to control.

“Good.” Shen Yifei smiled and nodded, then released Lin Cai’er from his embrace and strode forward.

Lin Cai’er’s small face froze. Was Shen Yifei really considering joining these underground forces (criminal gangs and organizations operating outside conventional law)?

Shen Yifei walked to the back of the taxi and pulled out a hefty wrench.

Then, under the astonished gazes of everyone present, Shen Yifei walked over to the Porsche sports car.

Shen Yifei raised the thick wrench and brought it down hard on the car door.

“Thump!”

The henchmen’s jaws dropped one by one, their eyeballs nearly popping out. This kid was actually smashing a sports car worth over a million!

Shen Yifei repeatedly smashed the car, hitting the front, the body, and even the windshield. He even wrenched the car door clean off.

The brand-new Porsche was utterly disfigured!

Shen Yifei was currently very poor and really wanted this sports car, but things acquired by illicit means were no good. Besides, his Master and junior sister always told him to keep a low profile (a common practice among martial artists and cultivators to avoid unnecessary trouble), so Shen Yifei couldn’t exactly act ostentatiously even if he wanted to.

*Sigh*, this was truly frustrating!

A vein pulsed on Li Fei’s forehead. “What the hell do you mean by this? Are you spitting on my generosity?!”

Shen Yifei tutted. “I’m smashing *my* car. Why are you so upset? Oh, right, I just asked if this car was mine; I never said I was going to follow you. Just so we’re clear, I’ve never been one to follow others.”

“Pfft!”

Lin Cai’er choked. Shen Yifei was too daring!

“Damn it!”

This was beyond endurance! Li Fei flew into a rage. He hadn’t realized he’d been played for a fool by Shen Yifei from beginning to end!

“Get that bastard! Kill him for me!”

The henchmen had long been unable to suppress their fury. At Li Fei’s command, they all surged forward madly.

Shen Yifei gripped the wrench, swung it forward, and struck one man’s shoulder.

“Ah!” With a scream, the man’s eyes rolled back, and he collapsed, unconscious.

A blond-haired thug pulled out a dagger from his waist and thrust it towards Shen Yifei’s abdomen. His movements were practiced, clearly a veteran of this trade.

Shen Yifei showed no mercy, smashing the wrench directly onto the thug’s forehead.

Before the blond-haired thug could even stab him, his forehead was cracked open, and he fell into a pool of blood.

“Kill this kid!”

The henchmen’s faces turned savage as they brandished their daggers and swarmed him. Shen Yifei rapidly swung the wrench.

The wrench in his hand seemed to have eyes; with every swing, another person went down.

In less than half a minute, screams echoed. All the henchmen lay on the ground, writhing in a heap, groaning, unable to get up.

Shen Yifei strode towards Li Fei.

“You… don’t come any closer!” Li Fei stumbled back a few steps, trembling all over, finally losing his composure.

No wonder this kid was so fearless; he was a master of *this* caliber (referring to his exceptional combat skill)? He had truly met his match today.

Li Fei instinctively reached for his waist, but unfortunately, he hadn’t brought his gun today.

“This… this is a misunderstanding! Brother, please don’t take it to heart!” Li Fei exclaimed.

“Don’t you dare spout nonsense. I’m no brother of yours. Since you’re so fond of making others call you ‘Grandfather,’ why don’t you call *me* Grandfather now, and I’ll listen?” Shen Yifei sneered.

“Gra… Grandfather!” Li Fei hesitated for a moment, then finally uttered the word.

When under someone’s roof, one must bow their head (a Chinese idiom meaning one must yield to superior power). Looking at Shen Yifei’s playful smile, Li Fei increasingly felt that this young man was unfathomably deep, and he dared not provoke him.

Shen Yifei couldn’t help but laugh. This guy had seemed quite imposing at first, but it turned out he was just a wimp.

“Grandfather, let’s… let’s talk this over, please, don’t… don’t hit me!” Li Fei cried out.

“Don’t hit you? Sure, you can. Go on, smash that car until it’s completely destroyed.” Shen Yifei chuckled, tossing the wrench to Li Fei.

Li Fei wanted to cry. He genuinely wondered if Shen Yifei was insane.

Well, the car was already ruined anyway; smashing it further was just like abandoning himself to despair (a Chinese idiom meaning to make things worse when they're already bad, or to give up hope and act recklessly).

Li Fei lifted the iron bar and gritted his teeth, smashing it onto the car door.

“Remember to hit the crucial spots,” Shen Yifei said, leaving that remark as he walked over to Lin Cai’er.

This little farce had finally come to an end. Having thoroughly toyed with these fellows, Shen Yifei was in high spirits.

Lin Cai’er’s head was spinning. She half-wondered if she was dreaming. If this wasn’t a dream, then Shen Yifei was truly the most mysterious and powerful man she had ever met.

“Alright, let’s go,” Shen Yifei said, patting Lin Cai’er’s shoulder.

“Mm.” Lin Cai’er instinctively gripped Shen Yifei’s arm, and they both got into the Audi.

“Cai’er, I’m really sorry about what happened today; we didn’t even get to eat,” Shen Yifei said, scratching his head.

“No, no, no, this whole thing was completely my fault,” Lin Cai’er quickly waved her hands.

Shen Yifei smiled. “Let’s not dwell on this. I’ll treat you to dinner next time.”

“Mm.” Lin Cai’er’s cheeks flushed slightly. Wasn’t that basically a date? Of course, she had no reason to refuse, and her heart felt as sweet as honey.

The Audi started again and drove towards Peach Blossom Community (a residential area).

Upon arriving at the community, Shen Yifei escorted Lin Cai’er upstairs.

Outside her door, Lin Cai’er wanted to say something but couldn’t quite voice it. Finally, she managed to squeeze out, “Get… get some rest early!”

Lin Cai’er wasn’t usually shy around everyone, but facing Shen Yifei, she was easily embarrassed.

“Mm.”

Shen Yifei nodded. His emotional intelligence wasn’t low; he knew that Lin Cai’er had some degree of interest in him.

This girl was so endearingly lovely; if she were to offer herself to him (a romantic trope where a woman offers herself in gratitude or love), Shen Yifei would truly find it hard to resist.
